Exercises for Golfer’s Elbow
Golfer’s elbow, also known as "medial epicondylitis", is characterized by pain and inflammation on the inside of the elbow. Strengthening and stretching exercises can help alleviate pain and prevent further injury. Here are some effective exercises to incorporate into your routine:
1. Wrist Flexor Stretch
1. Starting Position: Extend your affected arm in front of you, palm facing up.
2. Stretch:Use your other hand to gently pull the fingers of the extended hand down and back towards your body until you feel a stretch on the inside of your forearm.
3. Hold: Maintain this stretch for 15-30 seconds.
4. Repeat: Perform 3 times, then switch to the other arm if necessary.
2. Wrist Extensor Stretch
1. Starting Position: Extend your affected arm in front of you, palm facing down.
2. Stretch: Use your other hand to gently pull the back of the extended hand down and back towards your body until you feel a stretch on the outside of your forearm.
3. Hold: Maintain this stretch for 15-30 seconds.
4. Repeat: Perform 3 times, then switch to the other arm if necessary.
3. Wrist Curls (Flexion)
1. Equipment: Use a light dumbbell or a water bottle.
2. Starting Position: Sit down and rest your forearm on your thigh or a bench, palm facing up, holding the weight.
3. Curl: Slowly curl your wrist upwards, lifting the weight towards the ceiling.
4. Lower: Slowly lower the weight back to the starting position.
5. Repeat: Perform 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions.
4. Reverse Wrist Curls (Extension)
1. Equipment: Use a light dumbbell or a water bottle.
2. Starting Position: Sit down and rest your forearm on your thigh or a bench, palm facing down, holding the weight.
3. Curl: Slowly curl your wrist upwards, lifting the weight towards the ceiling.
4. Lower: Slowly lower the weight back to the starting position.
5. Repeat: Perform 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions.
5. Forearm Pronations and Supinations
1. Equipment: Use a light dumbbell or a hammer.
2. Starting Position: Sit down and hold the weight in your hand, with your elbow bent at 90 degrees and forearm supported on your thigh.
3. Movement: Rotate your forearm, turning the palm up (supination) and then down (pronation).
4. Repeat: Perform 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions in each direction.
6. Grip Strengthening
1. Equipment: Use a soft stress ball or a grip strengthener.
2. Starting Position: Hold the ball or grip strengthener in your hand.
3. Squeeze: Squeeze the ball or grip strengthener as tightly as you can.
4. Hold: Maintain the squeeze for 5-10 seconds.
5. Release: Slowly release your grip.
6. Repeat: Perform 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions.

Additional Tips:
- Perform these exercises 2-3 times a week, allowing for rest days in between.
